Your time off over the summer should be cherished. On one hand, you need to work to pay the bills but on the other, you want to enjoy time away from uni. Which of these ideas will make summer 2019 the best ever?
The UK isn't knowing for its amazing weather, but here are 10 ideas that will help you have fun without breaking the bank.
1. Visit London

A day trip to London is certainly doable financially and with great places to visit that are either free or cheap, you'll have a great day enjoying the capital. Call to see the Ravens at the Tower of London, ride the London Eye, unleash your inner wizard at the Harry Potter Studios or take in the story of the Jack the Ripper Tour.
Push the boat out by taking in a show in the West End. Keep a cap on the cash by staying in one of the many affordable hostels in London if you fancy spending more than a day in the city.
2. Go to a music festival
The UK has an amazing range of music festivals to choose from. There's nothing like three days of camping in a muddy field without a care in the world. Tickets range from around £150 to £300 for the full experience (usually 3 days) but with planning, you can enjoy the summer in a haze of music, great company and the unmistakeable delight of spending nights under both canvas and the stars.

And of course, there is the iconic music festival Glastonbury at the end of June, a must-go-to!
Use your Loot account to help you save for your festival ticket. Keep on top of your spending and put money aside for the things you want to do this summer.
Take a look at smaller festivals in your local area too. These can often be cheaper but just as much fun with great line-ups of bands. Being closer to home, travel costs will be lower too.
3. BBQ by the sea
(Almost) completely free, all you need is a disposable BBQ and food to cook. A chilled on the evening on the beach with friends - what could be better? The UK is blessed with some of the best beaches and coastline in the world an whilst the sea may not be warm and turquoise like far-flung climes, there is still a lot of fun to be had at the seaside.
Make sure you clean up after yourself and check the rules regarding barbeques on your chosen beach to avoid a hefty fine.
4. Watch the sunrise

Drag yourself out of bed and head out to a nice place to watch the sunrise. Normally the sun rises at around 5am in the summer, so give yourself plenty of time to wake up and get yourself dresses so you don't miss it. Use your weather app on your phone to make sure you're not leaving the confines of your warm bed for nothing.
To get the best views go to somewhere high above the sea level - like the top of Snowdon, Wales. Just make sure you have the right gear and check the route to the top and the weather beforehand.
5. Visit a museum (or three)
There are more than 2,500 museums in the UK, so there's plenty to choose from, and many are reporting record visitor numbers. We often think of museums and galleries as stuffy places but nothing is further from the truth!
From art to science to war, you're bound to find something that you're interested in. The entry fees usually aren't too steep either, with many being free.
Take a look at the National Gallery in London or the National Railway Museum in York, a beautiful city to visit. The Titanic Museum in Belfast is simply huge (book on the tour for the best insights into this famous ship).
6. Go on a road trip without a destination in mind

Grab a mate, jump in the car, fill up with fuel and away you go.
7. Have a social media detox
This isn't for everyone, but sometimes it's just nice to live in the moment without constantly checking social media all day (or try for a week). Delete all your social media apps off your phone so you don't feel tempted, head out for the day with your family or friends and forget about checking Instagram - you'll feel so much better for it.
8. Watch a whole Netflix series in one day
The best £5.99 you'll ever spend. Pick a Netflix series that you've been waiting to watch, grab some snacks and have the laziest day known to man! It's called self-care...
9. Go to Ibiza

Fancy a cheap holiday with your mates? Ibiza is the place to go with Playa d'en Bossa just south of Ibiza town being the place to go soak up the sun on the beautiful beach and then dance the night away in the local clubs. Many companies allow you to book now for a small deposit giving you plenty of time to save up your bucks for the summer. Starting from as little as £300 you can spend a week in the sun and dancing the night away.
10. Host a themed party
Whether you're still living at home and lucky enough to have parents that would allow you to have a party or you have a place of your own, get all your friends together and have a themed party. It's a great way to catch up with everyone during the summer break from uni!
